Today was one of THOSE days. It started off with promise but quickly took unwanted turns. Meetings ran over, deadlines loomed, and unforeseen issues cropped up, throwing my meticulously planned schedule into chaos. By mid-afternoon, I realized I hadn’t met a single goal I’d set for the day.
Amid this chaos, I decided I needed a break; something to reset my mind and lift my spirits. I craved a nice cup of coffee, but with no milk in the house, I remembered an old Vietnamese tradition- Vietnamese Egg Coffee.
Don't freak out, please, and don't leave my blog unread—I promise it's worth it. I began by separating egg yolks from the whites, whisking the yolks with milkmade until they transformed into a light, frothy cream. The repetitive motion of the whisk was surprisingly meditative, It was just me and the eggs, a simple, quiet moment amidst the noise.
As I brewed one shot of esspresso, its rich, dark aroma filled the kitchen, creating a comforting atmosphere. Watching the slow drip of the coffee was a moment of quiet anticipation, a small ritual that reminded me to SLOW DOWN and savor the process.
Once the coffee was ready, I carefully poured the creamy egg mixture over it, creating a beautiful golden layer atop the dark brew. The contrast was striking and mesmerizing, a perfect harmony of two seemingly mismatched elements. As I took my first sip, the sweet, velvety foam met my lips, followed by the strong, bitter coffee beneath. The flavors were luxurious and invigorating.
In the process of making this coffee, I realized that sometimes, the best solutions come from trying something new, even if it seems absurd at first. The Vietnamese, faced with a milk shortage, came up with this brilliant combination. It’s a reminder that a pause, a moment to think differently, can lead to unexpected delights.
Isn't DESIGN about finding creative solutions in unexpected places? Using yolks instead of milk was a brilliant twist, born out of necessity and ingenuity. As I sat there, sipping my Vietnamese Egg Coffee, I felt a renewed sense of calm and creativity.
I encourage you to try it yourself. Take a few minutes out of your day, whip up some egg yolks, and let the coffee brew. The result is not just a delicious drink but a moment of calm and joy. This small break brought a touch of magic to my day, reminding me of the beauty in life’s little oddities.
I hope this blog was a reminder for you to just- Pause and Breathe.
